Artist Statement
This work is based on a screenshot of Micheala Coel on a video call with Trevor Noah discussing her project, “I May Destroy You.” To render her image, I used visual quotes from: Panca “Don't Smoke in Bed” 2018, Berthe Morisot “Forest” 1886, Edvard Munch “Self Portrait With the Spanish Flu” 1919, and Emily Somoskey “Cascade” 2020.
Bio and Websites
I'm a 76 year old Anglo-American artist who has been painting since the 1950s. Born in Inglewood, California, I have lived and worked in San Francisco, New York City, and now San Diego. I was educated by Abstract Expressionist artists at Chouinard Art Institute, Cuesta College, and Sonoma State University. My practice is oil painting which incorporates photographic imagery and since the late 1990's has also involves digital image manipulation. "Angst Lately," a solo show of my oil paintings is scheduled for February and March 2021 at Fresh Paint Gallery, La Jolla.
