The Place That Was

2018

digital print

Artist Statement

In this, the ancient pictograph, petroglyph people have returned to the abandoned village to live close to the earth the way they did in their time. Parenio creates a visual dialog about the earth's frailty and beauty, and her own desire to preserve it. She is a sculptor who paints, using colors and shapes from nature as another way of seeing. Her works are intentionally idiosyncratic-not trivial variations on a theme. She insists that even her 2 dimensional work has dimensions to them!
