Artist Statement

This is a still from a short animation I did for the San Diego chapter of AIGA. In September AIGA hosted San Diego Design Week all across the city. One of their events was a live projection on the side of a building in Little Italy. It was a sampling of designs by local artists with the theme "Projecting Futures." My 15 second animation was included in this show. It is about a hope for unity, with this fist bump as one of the gestures.

Bio and Websites

Jenn Steffey is an award winning illustrator, zine maker, and graphic designer working out of her studio in San Diego along with her small dog Pogo.

Her approach is quick and expressive, using watercolor, gouache and ink to highlight her subjects. This style lends to unique blending and bleeds, which can take on a life of their own and accentuate the imagery. The uncertainty of the medium is what she is drawn to and uses it to create a unique look.

Her influences are old Wonder Woman comics, Pop-Tarts, Gothic architecture, Hawaiian mythology, New Yorker Magazine, Eleanor Davis, Emil Ferris, RuPaul, Julia Rothman, Steven Guarnaccia, and David Bowie.

She has a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design and has taught kids how to get their hands dirty with art.
