Artist Statement
In this collage, Surf 1, I play with ideas of dissolution and renewal by combining surf images with prints of historical paintings, cutting them up in ways that represent the physical attributes of water and then intertwining the resulting patterns and shapes. I’m interested in the physical act of cutting into the images and weaving the thin paper together, selecting what can be seen and what will be hidden from view, and then continuing to break up the image, letting it ripple and dissipate like sea foam.
