Hysterical

2019

digital print

Artist Statement

Hysterical is part of my Dream House painting series, which depicts the refuge of a contemporary romantic hero who isolates themselves in a space halfway between the digital and physical world. The work deals with issues of privacy and surveillance, love and safety and isolation and community. In Hysterical, fractured body parts are scattered in a fetishized pink bathroom. A disembodied silk robe is reflected in a mirror, above a rich marble sink holding an avocado face mask. The hysterical cry of YouTuber Trisha Paytas, who is pictured in a photograph in the mirror, reverberates through the scene.
